Do I need to book, or can I walk in?
Walk-ins are welcome and usually fine. Sunset and weekends fill up, so message or reserve ahead if you want a specific time.
How much does a sauna session cost in Hiriketiya?
A Full Circuit at Maha Sauna is LKR 6,000. That is 90 minutes with the barrel sauna, ice cold plunge, steam room and magnesium bath, water and towel included. Packages bring it down: three sessions for 16,000, ten for 45,000, a month unlimited for 60,000.
How cold is the ice bath?
Between 3 and 8°C. The plunge is filtered continuously and temperature controlled, so it is the same cold on a quiet Tuesday as on a full Saturday. One to three minutes is plenty.
What should I bring?
Swimwear. Water and a towel are included, and there are showers on site. Eat light beforehand, leave jewellery off, and skip alcohol before a session.
Is a sauna good after surfing?
It is the most common reason people come. Deep heat loosens tight shoulders, hips and legs after a session in the water, and a short plunge afterwards takes the edge off next-day soreness. Hiriketiya, Dikwella and Mirissa surfers use it as a recovery stop.
